Dr. Jay C. Long, Bariatric Surgeon

Jay C. Long, MD, FACS is the founder of Birmingham Minimally Invasive Surgery, located in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a board-certified, award-winning laparoscopic surgeon specializing in general and bariatric surgery. He began his professional studies at Tulane University where he completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology. He earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM), completed his general surgery residency at Baptist Medical Center (BMC), and a fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the Methodist Hospital in Texas.

Dr. Long is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a member of the Southern Medical Association (SMA), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS), the American Medical Association (AMA), Southeastern Surgical Congress (SESC), Southwestern Surgical Congress (SWSC), Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the Jefferson County Medical Society (JCMS), the Christian Medical Ministry Association (CMMA) and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

As a dedicated expert in his field, Dr. Long is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award, Hugh Linder Award for Outstanding Resident, 1st Place Top Gun Laparoscopic Shootout, and many more.
