Question:
Benefits of herbal suppliments pros and cons!!

Not so much a question, however, helpful information... There are many benefits to herbal supplements. However, be sure to remember that they may not mix with surgery. St. John's Wort may intensify the effects of anesthesia and narcotics. Ginseng can increase blood pressure. And gingko biloba may interfere with blood clotting. The American Society of Anesthesiologists recommends that you stop taking any herbal supplements two to three weeks prior to scheduled surgery. Talk to your doctor about the herbs you take when you are scheduling surgery, to find out if there could be problems. If you have to have a sudden or emergency surgery, be sure to tell your doctor what supplements you are taking.    — Victoria B. (posted on August 17, 1999)
