Question:
What Vitamins do you have to take post-op?

I have yet to find somewhere that tells what vitamins you have to take and how much. I don't have a surgery date set up and will be talking with the Nutrition Consultant in a couple weeks. Is there a huge list or just a couple main ones???    — Sabrina Plunkett (posted on July 28, 2003)

It is different for everyone. The amount of vitamins you need to take depend on the individual and their surgeon's protocol. I take 2 chewable multivitamins, 1000mg of calcium citrate, and 2 tbsp fiber supplement (Benefiber) a day. Some people take B12, some people take iron, some people take additional vitamin D, E, magnesium, phosphorous, etc, etc. It will all depend on your surgeon. You will find out more once you speak with the nutritionist.

Your surgeon's office should advise you on this. Mine has me take 2 multivitamins with iron per day, 1 250 mg. Vitamin B-12, 1 Vitamin A&D, 1200 mg Calcium Citrate--and it's for life.

I take two Bariatric Lifestyle Complete Nutritional System Chewable Vitamins a day, they are great and only cost about $9 a month. Then I do a Real Meals shake everyday for the 60 grams of protein plus it has over 40 other vitamins including the calcium which because it is in liquid form is absorbed 100% immediately. You can get both and more info at www.protein-solution.com
