Question:
Has anyone collected information on the range of costs for WLS .

There seems to be a wide range of costs cited for WLS. Since I am self-employed and my not find insurance to pay for surgery, in order to determine if I can afford it, it would be good for me to be able to see the difference in costs across the country. I guess I am asking if there is a database on fees for hospitals, surgeons, etc. etc.?    — Julie P. (posted on February 1, 2000)

I was self-pay as well. For everything, including meals cooked for my husband (not cafeteria food), was about $10,000. I had to pay for my travel, of course. My surgery was done in Spain. The doc speaks fluent English and I was very well cared for. If you want further info, please feel free to email me. [email protected]

I just had open distal RNY in Salt Lake City,Ut. 1-11-00 The average cost there is $15,000 total. (Dr's .clinic & hosp.} It is one of the least expensive places in the U.S.A. The clinic specializes in bariatric surgery, and 1 floor in the hosp. is designated for such surgeries.

Dear Julie, I was also a self pay patient. My surgery was $15,000 with everything included except pre-op tests, and of course travel and hotel. I went from Illinois to New York for my surgery. I researched many Drs in the US and found the best and most affordable In Dr. Goodman in New York. I do have a list of Drs and self pay costs, if you would like a copy I will need your address..can't E-mail it...too long. I see you are also in Illinois. I live in Oswego. Please E-mail me for more info. [email protected]. Good Luck, Karla
