Question:
Alternatives to Suppositories

Not my most favorite topic, but I need to ask it anyways. Our preop instructions state the requirement of a suppository the night before surgery. Giving myself a suppository is without question NOT an option for me. Has anyone else used an alternative solution? I was looking at products like Fleet Phospho Soda Oral Saline Laxative, which does state it is used for pre op patients. I am not asking for medical advice, just for personal suggestions. Hi Stacy Well I can tell you this I had/get backup quit often since surgery. I was calling my surgeons office and they were telling me to try MOM...well uh NOT!!!! I did that and before it completly even hit my throat I threw it up...then they said try Fleet Phosporous Soda or whatever...it is supposed to be the fast acting...Welp I tried that and it is GROSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! I tried gulping I tried sipping I tried to dilute with more water...No help. What I do use about 1 a week is a product called "Dieter's Tea" I get it from my local grocer....all you do is boil 2 cups water put the tea bag in drink up(is pleasant tasting..cold or hot) and WALA...about oh 5-6 hours later,I think you know the rest! ewwww! I'm not giving medical advice, as I'm not a doctor, but I used to work in a hospital for 10 yrs (unit secretary), and they would give a fleets enema (the one time use throw away kind) or cascara and m.o.m. the night before most surgeries. I can't remember the dose on the last laxative though. Perhaps a pharmacist could assist in the dosage. I would also maybe check back with WLS Dr. Maybe he could prescribe something else.
