Question:
Has anyone been diagnosed with esophagitis, gastritis and hiatal hernia?

I went in today for my endoscopy and my doctor found of all of the above. He prescibed me Protonix twice a day. He asked me questions about acid reflux also. He said the meds would take care of me and to see him in 6-8 weeks. He also wished me much success with my surgery....    — charlyce B. (posted on November 21, 2002)

Hi, I had all the above and with surgery they have totally cured themselves. I have taken no medication since the day before surgery. (Open RNY 11-12-01 -135 lbs)

I had an endoscopy b/c I was complaining of GERD. They found esophagitis, and a hiatal hernia. I went in for a surgery consult on having that repaired, and we ended up talking about WLS. The surgeon said the WLS would correct all those problems. He also suggested that WLS would be more complicated if I had the hernia surgery first...

I second what the other posters said. RNY fixed all of those problems. The relief from the reflux would have been reason enough to have the surgery(being near goal and down 116 pounds ain't bad either, LOL). I have not had a problem one with any of it since the day of surgery.
