Question:
Where can I rent a reclining chair?

A patient told me yesterday that a lot of post-ops rent Lay-z Boy chairs because it it too difficult to get up and down out of their beds because the beds are low. I searched around in my area but found nothing. I am also concerned about how low my toilet is. Is there something I can get that will make it more accessible until I get healed?    — Evella W. Go to www.infoseek.com, click on yellow pages, enter Furniture Rental-leasing in business category, enter Silver Spring, Md in city/state areas. There are 29 furniture rental agencies in your area. I'm sure one of them will have a recliner you can rent! Good luck!

Hi, in my area (Wisconsin)there are furniture rental stores. And I thought this a great idea, too! Ones that come to mind are Rent A Center and First American Rental. They are in yellow pages under rent. The other that I had never heard of till I read it in a posting is probably found under a medical rental center. Sometimes these are very comprehensive pharmacies, etc. The sort of places that rent out hspital beds and the like. Good luck.

I went to a medical supply pharmacy and bought a white plastic toilet seat that looks like a very large donut. I makes your own bathroom seat about 6-7" higher and just sits on top of your regular commode. There are no straps or clamps. It was very easy to use and clean, I just rinsed it in the shower. It cost about $21. Hope this helps.

I called a local medical supply company and they have a raising recliner (one that takes you from a sitting position to a semi standing and reverse) that they rent for $150 a month.

I HAD AN OPEN RNY ON 8-18 AND CAME HOME ON 8-24. I TRIED TO SLEEP IN MY BED THE FIRST NIGHT AND COULD NOT, SO I ENDED UP SLEEPING IN MY RECLINER. IT WAS NOT A COMFORTABLE NIGHT. I CALLED MY DR THE NEXT DAY AND HE ORDERED A HOSPITAL BED AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FOR IT. THAT AT LEAST ALLOWED ME TO SLEEP. TONIGHT 16 DAYS POST OP I PLAN TO SLEEP IN MY OWN BED. IF IT GOES WELL THE INSURANCE COMPANY CAN COME AN TAKE THE OTHER BED AWAY FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHO NEEDS IT.
