Question:
I don't have many weight loss attempts, will that be a problem?

I just received my wls info packet from the doctor's office. There are alot of wl methods that I haven't tried. Will this be a problem for me? I am 5'0, and weigh 255 lbs. As for co-morbidities, I have none. I'm pretty healthy for being overweight. I do h ave alot of lower back pain, swelling of my feet and ankles, and I snoore so bad! I also get ingrown toe nails from being heavy. I am going to a seminar next friday for Dr. Juarez in AZ. I have Aetna PPO,and I am over 100 lbs overweight, with a BMI over 45. DO you think I'll be approved? What happens after going to a seminar? Please let me know anything that I might need to know., Thanks!    — camiam (posted on February 9, 2001)

My personal experience and everything I've read indicates that you should have no problem being approved. The general guidelines are approval for a "healthy" person with a BMI of 40 or over and 35 or over for a person with co-morbidities like diabetes, high bp, etc. You seem to fall well within these guidelines for approval. If you call a surgeons office they will check for you what type of coverage your insurance will provide. Also see the "Insurers" section at the top of every page at this website for other people and their experiences, who have the same type of insurance you have.
