Question:
Anyone had a doctor that required NO bowel prep prior to sugery?

When I called today to set up my pre-op blood work etc.. I was told that I could come in as late as the evening before my surgery.I asked if there were any special prep and was told NO. I do not want to get there on Wednesday and be told I will have to be postponed. I do not have another M.D. appt. and my surgery is in 28 days...    — Deanna H. (posted on August 11, 2000)

I had my tests and had a liquid diet for 4 days prior to surgery. That was all the bowel prep my surgeon required.

Nope NO "Bowel Prep" for me either.. I asked about that also.. I was told to go out an splurge last dinner thing.... psssst I didn't do that..I went on liquids three days prior to surgery.. I wanted absolutely no complications and this was one thing I felt I could control.. So I did.. ;-)

My surgeon also required no bowel prep. Nothing to eat (or, I think, drink) after midnight. This was for a laparascopic procedure, but doubt this makes the difference as they must be prepared to convert to open if needed.

My doctor, Dr. Wetter, Burlingame, CA didi not require any pre-op bowel cleaning. He just said to eat lightly the couple days before and no food and drink after midnight the night before the surgery.

My Dr had me stop eating the day before after 12PM (lunch time). I also had to take a suppository at 6PM night before. I thought that the suppository was a bit much but I did it. Good luck!! Jay

Nothing is required at all from my doctor for any of his patients. Only don't eat or drink after midnight.

No bowel prep required by my surgeon prior to a lap RNY. I was told that I could eat "normally" the night before, then nothing by mouth after midnight. I had no problems at all with that regimen, but I would advise against splurging at your last meal...that will increase your chances of post-op nausea/vomiting and excess (and very uncomfortable) intestinal gas. Good luck!

Victoria and I share the same surgeon. Dr. Husted in Nashville. he doesnot reguire any prep work. He old me that if I did not eat after midnight, the food would have moved far enough down that it wold not be in his way. So I trusted him,and st 7pm the night before I had pork chops, twice baked potato and salad. and then about 9:30 My sister surprised me with a snickers that she had stowed away in her overnight bag. FYI.... Dr. Husted is no longer affialiated with the "Right weigh" program. He holds his own "Dr. Husted seminars", and support meeting.

Hi! I had no bowel prep and everything went fine. My doc just told me to stop eating/drinking at 12 midnight. My surgery was around 11:30 am or thereabouts. As I said, everything went fine, so. . .*S* GOOD LUCK!!!

I have just been scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks and was told I do not need to do the bowel perp. My Sister and cousin had their's done 10 and 11 months ago and they had to do it. I guess it depends on the DR. I would think you would want that all cleaned out. I am still going to do clear liquids for 2 or 3 days prior and maybe som Milk of Magnesia just to be on the safe side.
