Question:
The last couple of days I have had pain on the left side of my abdomen...l

it feels like a "stitch" or "krink"...and hurts like heck to stand, get out of bed or out of the car...can hardly stand upright...any ideas???? I have had a BM since the pain started so I guess it is not that....I'm am going to e-mail my surgeon..but he always writes...go to the ER... I am trying to wait until I see my PCP on Tues...but if it keeps up I don't know if I can.    — pat C. (posted on May 17, 2003)

You didnt say 'how' far along you are... Early on; about 8 weeks or so (I got mine about 1 week after starting back to work) would hurt to breath, etc. Went to my surgeon and he said it was the tissue 'healing'. It passed. BUTTTTT it is always good practice to follow your doctor orders. If you are FURTHER out... it could be INTESTINES blockage and you DO need to go to the ER!

I see from your profile/surgery comments page that you had surgery in early April. Only thing I can say is that you probably are healing. They do move things around alot when they are in there! Until you can see your PCP or surgeon, try a heating pad for 15 or 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Helped me a lot while recuperating.

I also had lots of left side pain. The surgeons assistant told me that sometimes the muscle gets torn or there could be some nerve damange thats healing. They do all the "work" from the left side when it's done lap. I had pain off and on in my left side that made me want to cry. I'm almost 13 weeks out now and it seems to be better. Always call your surgeon though, don't just depend on answers from here. Everyone is different and there are so many things that could need looking into. Hope you are feeling better soon, I know that pain is NO fun.
