Question:
I need help

I'm almost 8 months post op and I've quit losing weight 2 months ago. Not a pound in two months. Can't get any answers as to why I'm not losing. I do everything right, except exercise. Surely I'm not the only one that doesn't exercise. Any answers out there?    — braesgran (posted on February 3, 2003)

Is there something holding you back from excercise? I am seeing this same effect...as I didn't excercise beyond the first few weeks (walking to avoid blood clots)... winter set in and I just didn't do it... I have not lost in a month so I went and joined a PE class at the community college... I think for me it's because I am taking in more calories than I did initially and I am not doing anything to burn them... I have upped my water and have lost a couple pounds in about 3 weeks-granted not a great stride but a start... anyway I'd be interested to know...I'd love to share ideas, and update so feel free to email me...

I doubt you're done losing, I think that the 1st 6 months are the easiest, and after that it slows down a great deal. I am 8 months post-op as well. I exercise a little in the beginning, then for like 6 months, did nothing due to many health issues I have. You're definately not the only one who doesn't exercise, but maybe you can try? Even taking a 20 minute walk 3 times a week can help and you just feel better overall! I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and go 4-5 times a week and that broke my 3 week plateau I was on. Also, even if you are eating alot of protein, try upping it even like 5 more grams a day. Your body gets used to things very quickly, so makng a small change should help. Goodluck to you!

You really need to get some exercise to keep the weight loss going, even if it is only walking 30 minutes a day. I know it made a difference for me.

Same thing happened to me except it was at 7 months out. About 2 weeks prior to me having my tt, my weight loss kicked in again and I had lost my remaining weight about a month after my tt.

Georgia, your scenario sounds just like mine. I had surgery just a few weeks before you and I have not exercised at all. I have lost 93 lbs to date. I have not lost anything either in the last two months until a few weeks ago. I had the flu and couldn't eat for a week (honestly I think my plateau was due to eating too much expecially carbs). All I took in was liquids...broth etc. Then all the sudden I lost 10 lbs. and I have noticed that I get full much quicker now ...I think being on only fluids did help although I'm not sure I would have had the willpower to do that if it hadn't been for the flu :) Anyway, hang in there I am sure your weight loss will kick back in. I don't want another long plateau, so I cut out a lot of carbs and increased my protein. I wish I could find the time to exercise but I have 4 children and work full time and am home very very little. I am constantly running in circles and am exhausted by the time I get home. I have about 30 lbs. to go to reach my goal. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone..... Good luck!

As you lose, your body adapts, you are in a new battle of fighting adaptation. You NEED to exercise. Others have said the same, and it is true. Folks who exercise do much better with their loss. Do something to get active, start slow, and just make it a goal to do a little more and a little more. It is weird to incorporate exercise, especially at first, but YOU CAN DO IT!

I am 4 months out and have lost almost 100lbs. I just recently jooned a gym called Curves and it's fantastic. They also have a protein shake that is really, really good...so see if there is one in your area. The workout is 3x week or more 30 minutes. Working for me! Excep my hair loss! lol
