Are the scabs kind of yellowish and crusty? If so, odds are you have a staph infection (impentigo most likely) and it is easily cleared up with a cream antibiotic from your primary that you apply with a Q-tip. I get this every time I a have an NG tube for surgery. Nobody knows why, but I do. I hear it's actually rather common. If you don't get it treated and it IS staph, it will spread - I had it cover my entire nose before I sought help the first time. Yeah, I was a bit dense in my younger years :>)

Ayr its a saline gel and it works well to keep your nose moist... I use it myself and on my toddler...keeps those crusties away...

I havent had surgery yet, but I get it quite often and I use bactroban ointment ( my pcp recomended it) and sometimes if its bad enough, I will take an oral antibotic. She also recomended putting my nose in warm salt water and blowing, and then sniffing it up my nose. Or you can use (ocean) spray, it is a saline you can purchase at any pharmacy or walmart. BTW congrats on your great weightloss!
