Question:
I am pregnant and 3.5 months post op...
I AM 3 AND A HALF MONTHS POST OP AND I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I AM PREGNANT. WHAT DO I DO .... PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE BEEN REAL CAREFUL TRYING NOT TO GET PREGNANT. I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET AN IUD LAST MONTH BUT MY GYN CALLED ME AND MOVED IT UP TO JULY 31. BUT KNOW I AM PREGNANT . HELP ME I AM WORRIED. — Tina K. (posted on July 27, 2002)

Oh Tina, boy I can just imagine how scared you are. I do not remember
names but I know I have read many times about people on this site getting
pregnant a few months after surgery and things turned out just fine. You
need to get a high risk OB doc, make sure to get all of your supplements
in, and have your levels drawn frequently to make sure you are getting
enough for you and the baby. I also know there are some people out there
that will treat you like crap for getting pregnant, but I know from
experience that birth control doesnt always work. I wish you the best.

Our support group has some beautiful childern born under similiar
circumstances. With careful proper monitoring you will do GREAT! Me and Jen
were unable to get pregnant, were hoping this changes post op. You are so
lucky to get a bundle of joy in your home!! I know the timing is bad but a
baby is wonderful. Congrats and get good surgeon and nutrition care for you
and your baby...

Being 22 years old and one month post op, and a newlywed on top of that,
getting pregnant is something I have discussed a lot with my surgeon and my
OBGYN. My advice was to wait a year and a half, but when it is time for a
child we have no control. My advice would be to get as many calories as
you can. My MD told me when I am pregnant he would like to see me
consuming 1200 to 1500 calories a day, which is going to be difficult but
the baby needs the calories. Also drink plenty of water, all day long.

TALK TO YOUR DOCTORS NOW. Tell your OB/GYN and have your WLS Surgeon to
call your OB/GYN so he/she can tell her if you need additional
vitamins,blood tests,etc. Good luck and congrats!!!!!!!
