Question:
I am thinking of going to Disney World 10 weeks postop..

I will only have been on regular foods for two weeks and I'll still be introducing myself to foods. I'll have to eat in restaurants and I know I'll be trying new things. I'm afraid I'll get sick. The trip is for eight days. I'm also afraid because I'll be with a group of heavy eaters and I may not be able to take being around all that food. I don't want to overeat and make myself sick. Any ideas?    — Lisa N M. (posted on April 28, 2002)

Hi! We just went to Disney for spring break. I was 4 1/2 months post-op so it wasn't too bad for me. Eating was actually easier than I had thought. You might want to get Birnbaums guide to Disney, I found mine at Barnes & Noble. It is fantastic. I planned all of the activities, in order, for the day, and also where we were going to eat. It gives you price ranges and food items for each eatery at each park. I highly recommend it. I do want to add this: We spent $150-$180 on just bottled water!! It is really hot down there, you do LOTS of walking (have comfy shoes) and you can dehydrate easily. I had originally planned on refilling my water bottles at the fountain, but ewwww grosss, I just coudn't stomach the water. I did have a little fridge in my room that I would freeze a large water bottle overnight. If you have kids, and are taking a stroller, take a large container of water for the day and the stoller can carry it. We didn't have that option and carrying that much water was out of the question. If you have any more questions about Disney, please feel free to email me. Have a super time!

You can also rent a locker for a nominal fee, and take your own food. We take, (or you can rent) a stroller, and put a small back pack/cooler in there so you can keep it with you. No one seems to bother anybodies stuff. As far as your time out to go, you will do fine. I went about the same time to Busch Gardens, but like the last poster said, drink a lot of h20...

I just got back from disney 2 weeks ago. I was 8 weeks post op when we left. I had a great time, and finding things to eat wasnt as hard as I thought it would be. Definitly take in snacks and water.. they wont say anything about it. At the Magic Kingdom by the alladin ride.. they have a place that sells frozen orange juice!! I was in heaven... if you can tolerate orange juice this is great on a hot day. its hard to find many sugar free items at disney. If you have any questions email me [email protected] have a great time! jen
