Question:
what procedure do dr's use to check 4 leaks post op

i thought the nurse said a swallow test....not an upper gi...does anyone know about this.....what test is performed the day after surgery to check for leaks....thanks in advance    — patricia H. (posted on April 26, 2002)

I had to drink some horrible (I thought!) stuff and stand there getting xrayed while it went down. I was able to watch it on a screen too and it was neat to see my new plumbing! Lots of folks said the taste didn't bother them.

Hi. The day after my surgery they did a "swallow" test which is the same thing as an upper GI. You just have to take sips of the liquid instead of drinking down large quantities. I was told the Barium liquid would taste bitter but it wasn't bad at all. Good Luck.
