Question:
Are all WL patients intubated before surgery? Do all patients have an NG tube?

No, not all are incubated before surgery... only high risk cases or when the anesthesiologist feels that it is necessary. I don't think I had an NG tube, but if I did, it was pulled out before I woke up in recovery. Ask your surgeon what he does and what you can expect to wake up with.

AHH ALL WLS patients are intubated FOR surgery, only high risk ones are done while still awake! EVERYONE is put on a vent for our safety. Machines breathe for us because the anthestics depress our normal breathing. I was a unfortunate one who was intubated while awake it really wasnt that bad, just tasted terrible. This question got discussed just a few days ago here. Its nothing to be scared of and mine was removed witout my knowledge. NG tubes are optional and it depends on the surgeon.

My tubes were placed after I was asleep and removed before I woke up. I'm a lap and there was no tubes hanging out of my tummy either.
