It's not bad, I had to have a chest x-ray, some blood drawn an EKG. Be prepared to walk alot that day, wear comfortable shoes, I walked up and down and all over the hospital to get the tests done. Good luck to you.

Congratulations! You have the same ins. carrier as me. The doctor and the insurance company required blood work (thyroid), an endoscopy, and a psychological evaluation. Again, all docs are different like you said. Some require a sonogram of the gall bladder and a chest xray. They didnt require the xray of me because I am 28 years young. If you have any questions, concerns or need some support, please email me. :)

I can answer this!!....lol..I just finished all of my pre-ops today as a matter of fact!!..I am scheduled to have my open RNY on April 10th. My surgeon ordered a Gallbladder- ultrasound, EKG, Urine Sample, ABG (blood gasses), a preganancy test (to be sure!!), several blood tests, a chest x-ray, a visit with my ever friendly psycologist and then the surgeon himself saw me and did a pre-op physical. None of the tests were bad. Even the ABG's test was tolerable. The worst was the gown didnt fit for my chest xray and i had to use 2 gowns...I had to trollop along the diagnostics lab with an armhole in between my boobs!! WOOOWEEEE.....Let me just say...The tests are the easy part. I was worried too but then when i asked my surgeon how BAD the tests would be he said with a chuckle "You're worried about a needle in your arm and your going to let me operate on you??" ...made sense to me!!....LOL

Well, although every surgeon often is different as far as what they require of you as far as pre-op testing goes, there are certain things they all will do. My surgeon required a phyc. evaluation, cardiac tests, pulmonary tests, chest x-ray, blood tests (and thats where I got hung up) I had elevated liver enzymes and after a month or so of testing plus a liver biopsy which by the way is no fun! But it all came out fine, I have fatty liver. Then I will have the blood test in the hospital Arterial Puncture for blood typing and blood gases. And hopefully after all of that you are ready to go! Good Luck To You!
