Question:
Can anyone help me with this pain?

Hi everyone, I am 3 weeks pre-op and I have been having UNBEARABLE pains in my left side. THey took my gallbladder out so I know it isn't that. It is to the point where I am in tears and I have a large pain tolerace. What is it? What is a hernia? My surgeon is out of town until next week should I go to the ER. It is constant but when it hits it hits HARD and I cannot walk. It is really scareing me. Anyone go through this before?    — Jennifer L. (posted on August 1, 2001)

I'm sorry that you are in pain. I had no Pain and certainly not at three weeks I would say to call your doctor right away or go to the ER. Sorry that's not much help but you should not be in pain.

I agree. Go to the ER. Pain to the point of not walking should really be checked out. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Could be a kidney stone -- I had this and yes, the pain is horrible!! I learned the hard way about the importance of drinking water!

Don't hesitate to go to the doctor! But that said . . . I had pretty severe pain in my left side about three weeks after surgery. I lived with it for about a week and it went away. I don't know what caused it to this day, but I think I may have pulled something trying to rid myself of some excess gas as this happened right before the pain started. It went away right before I was about to give up and go to the doctor. The bottom line is that, surgery or no, you shouldn't have pain so severe you can't walk. Be smart and get it checked out ASAP!

I got a hernia during my last pregnancy that was very painful to the point I could barely walk. I would have to bend over when I was standing up for it to feel better. I did find that wearing loose clothes helps- don't put any pressure on it until you can get to a dr- but I would be seen ASAP.
