Question:
What do you wear home from hosptial to stay comfortable?
I know this is a dumb question but what can you wear the first few week after surgery so that your incision isn't bothered. What do you wear home from the hosptial. Sorry for the superficial questions!!! — [Anonymous] (posted on June 16, 2001)

Hi, I wore sweats with a drawstring and a sweatshirt. I didn't wear a bra
because when I sat down it hit the top of the incision (that's IF you're
having open). Best wishes~

first i have to say that there r no superficial questions. how will we find
out answers if we dont ask the questions? secondly i think this is an
excellent question! i have had numerous 'belly' surgeries & the best
thing i found to wear home from the hospital & for about the first week
around the house is...A HOSPITAL GOWN! or 2, each put on with the opening
in the opposite direction. im quite serious!!! think how loose &
comfortable they r. & no bra of course!! visitors at home? throw ur
robe over the gowns to be more presentable. worked for me every time!

I wore a cheap madras cotton sun dress with a very high waist for about two
weeks!

I have not had surgery yet, but am a nurse with post-op experience. If you
are having a lap proc., remember still to have loose fitting clothes. I
took care of several lap pts (not bariatric) and they'd bring jeans or
something to wear home. This doesn't usually work well with regular lap
procedures because the abdomen is still slightly swollen from the gas used
during the procedure and I assume it would be similar for the bariatric
procedures. GOod Luck. Oh, I met with my surgeon this week - and hope to
get great news that I can have the surgery.

I was given a pretty dress by a dear friend(Susan) while I was in the
hospital.I did not plan on the extra bloating post surgery...The looser the
better,sun dress,big long tee etc.

I don't even have a surgery date scheduled yet but I just went to
Target..or K-mart or any discount store and bought 2 very bright colorful
caftans ( mumus)$15.00 each ...slip these on...they cover everything to the
floor...I can go braless and if anyone stops by I still look great!

I wore elastic waist shorts & shirt on the way home, but I brought home
a couple of hospital gowns for the first week or two after surgery. I had
a feeding tube for two weeks after surgery that was a pain, so I was very
happy to wear the hospital gowns until I got that taken off. Was very glad
I had them. JC Penny's has great cotton house coats with snaps down the
front. They're cool & easy to get in & out of. I'll pick up a
couple of these before my plastic surgery in July... Good luck to you!

I had surgery in the winter ... I had a very loose, stretchy cotton knit
pantsuit that I wore home from the hospital. For summer, I think a loose
dress would be cool and comfortable for the trip home. After I got to my
mom's house (I stayed with her during recovery) I mostly just wore loose,
comfy gowns around the house and my stretchy pant suits when I wanted to go
outside to walk and stuff. Also, I didn't bother with a bra for several
weeks ... but am not overly busty, so can get by without one. If you can't
go without, you might need to cushion your incision with some guaze pads or
a sanitary napkin cut in half. By the way, I didn't think your question

Be sure that when someone picks you up to discharge you from the hospital
that they bring along a pillow, like a bed pillow. It really helped on the
ride home, as even the tiniest bump felt like a 3 ft. deep pot hole!
Wear whatever you are comfortable in. I pushed myself to get dressed, but
would suggest a mens t-shirt to wear under your binder that will also make
it more comfortable and tolerable!

I wore a short zip up the front robe home from the hospital and around the
house for the first few days whenever I had visitors or went out for a
walk. When it was just family I wore a loose t-shirt type pajama that was
just fine. At about a week post-op I could wear my pull on knit pants. I
didn't have staples so it was a little easier.
