Question:
I'm 4 weeks out and get headaches almost daily. I never had them before. Any ideas?

Is it a dull thud or a sharp killer? How is your water intake, as in WATER, not liquid. If you are just slightly dehydrated, you can have a dull headache that goes on & on. You can drink a little water & see if it has any effect while you're making an appt with your PCP or surgeon. Some people do have an "anesthesia is leaving now" effect, too.

It's probably a caffeine headache. My bariatric program prefers us to stop caffeine about a month ahead of our surgery so that we don't get the 'caffeine' headaches while trying to recover. They will eventually stop.

Thankfully I've not had to many headaces. But I had alot of them for several months post op. They seem to taper off after awhile. Not fun though.

I would water for dehydration. Also, make sure you are getting enough sleep. I know that there two things are serious migraine triggers for me.

Heather, I would get bad headaches from low blood sugar i.e. not eating frequently enough post op. As long as I eat 6 times a day I'm fine. 280/158/140 Best Wishes~

If your still taking pain medicine prescribed to you from the Dr. while you were in the hospital, the headaches mean the pain medicine is nolonger needed, I have never had headaches either before this surgery and I found that the medicine was the one giving me the headaches I quit taking it immediately. Just a possiblility...

I agree with the posters that you may be experiencing a common side effect of too little fluid intake. I have noticed if I am having a headache and I sit and think about what I have drunk that day, I usually always end up with way too few ounces of fluid. When I take the time to ingest a big (32 oz) glass of water, I find the headache disappears in a few hours. So for me, the issue is fluid intake. Maybe that will help you too? (just as a funny aside, my father in law always said that if you had a headache, you either needed to drink a bunch of water or take a dump!!) hope your head feels better soon, remember to always ask your md about problems you are having. best wishes, karen (open rny 9/6/01, 297/147)
