My surgeon, in Neenah, has indicated that they think by the end of the year they will be doing the lap band for certain patients. In general he likes the RNY but they came back from the national convention in Boston and decided this was an way they wanted to go. They feel it is a good application for a "lightweight" and also a woman of child bearing age that plans to have children yet. They offer a free informed consent lecture once or twice a month at night. You can call the 800 number on the hospital website to get registered. Afterwards the surgeons stick around and you can ask any questions. At that point you could discuss when the lap band with them. You can also call the office and ask if they know when they will start doing this. Even though they will not have done many you can trust that Dr. Georgen or Wasco will do an excellent job. They would not go forward with it unless they knew what they were doing. Plus I'm sure they will have done training with other surgeons who do it regularly. They never just jump into something, they make sure they have the expertise needed to do it sucessfully. They are at Theda Clark which is a level trauma hospital and they are both trauma, general and bariatric surgeons. Dr. Georgen is also dir. of the trauma department. For me I loved the trauma background in them as I figured my body could not throw anything at them that they haven't already seen. They have awesome reputations and track records - Dr. Georgen especially. He's been doing bariatric surgery for over 15 years. He's the surgeon the doctors use when they need surgery. They want the best and he's it. Go to the Theda Clark website http://www.thedacare.org/hospitals/theda.html and click on the Bariatric Program. The name of their practice is Surgical Associates if you want their direct number to ask about when they will start doing lap band. If the office staff says they are not then tell them that someone told you they talked about it at an orientation in June. Good Luck! Feel free to contact me directly if you have any more questions.

Go to the "find a doc" section and research your choices there, that is the fastest way to find the info on a doctor. When you come to the page with the US map on it there is a drop down box that lets you choose "lab band" or AGB or all surgery types. You can keep doing that for any of the states that you are interested in. I believe there are 3 in the state of WI when I put that criteria of lap band in the computer.
