Question:
Spouse stay with you?

I'm going to BTC Wylie on 06/18 for WLS. Can your spouse stay in the room with you while you're there or does he have to get a hotel? He was in the hospital here a while back & they let me sleep in a recliner in the room. Wondering if he could do the same at BTC?    — Jo H. (posted on June 11, 2003)

I can't answer for BTC Wylie but my husband stayed with me at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO. I was surprised that they would allow that. I had a private room so that might have been the reason, I'm not sure. I just wanted to comment on my experience with my spouse staying with me. He was a great help too. I hope you can have your spouse with you and I wish you the best of luck with your surgery!!

You will need to ask BTC. At Fairfax hospital in Va, they let my mother stay with me all night and I am 43 yrs old !!!

I am going to BTC in Groveport, Ohio and their Pre-admissions instructions state that nobody is allowed to spend the night in the room with the patient. Fortunately, we only live about 20 minutes away from the hospital, but there is a hotel next door for those who have to travel to get there.

BTC should allow your family member to stay, they certainly charge enough money ($48,000) and remain out of all insurance networks! Unfortunately, the BTC was way out of my financial abilities!

I had mine done at BTC Michigan and my husband was treated very nicely and he stayed with me as much as he could for the 4 days, but we have 3 little ones, so he did not stay over night with me. I did see others have late night visitors. From what I understand and this is with most Hospitals, the first night after a major surgery or birth, your partner can stay over night, but they have time limits everyday after. Just call and ask b/c some will let it slide even if it's a rule :o) Good luck to you!

BTC does not allow family to say the night. In fact, they encourage them to do things while you're in the hospital. My husband came with me, but they wouldn't allow him to stay at the hospital. He had to stay at a hotel. He stayed all day during the first two days and I shooed him away the last two. He took a week vacation to be with me. I had to laugh at him. I'm 2 years PO and he was telling me that I was crying for water, ice anything. He kept going back to the nurses station begging for me to get something. He told me he was crying because I was (my husband is a softie). We laugh about it now.
