Question:
Who has had advice from Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist on lotion?

I was at Walgreens trying to pick out my next brand of lotion to rub on my flabby skin. I went and asked the Pharmasist what to use and he said it does'nt matter they all work the same, it's the keeping the skin moist and the rubbing. Is this true? I'm trying everything to help my skin shrink up....any suggestions? Thank you for the help!!!    — Sandy M. (posted on April 30, 2003)

I asked the same question at my weight loss support group meeting and was told by other members of the group that Nivea skin firming lotion worked well on arms and thighs. I was also told that it could take up to 8 weeks to see a noticeable difference. Before I bought the Nivea brand, I was using the Landers brand of skin firming lotion and one major difference on the labels is the absence of Q-10 and biotin in the Landers brand. The Landers was also $6 cheaper. Good luck finding something that works well for you!

Look up Biotin. You may want to take it. Surgery or not.

I asked my dermatologist and I also mentioned what I use to my plastic surgeon. They both say the same thing, it's using the lotion every day and the action of rubbing it in that softens the skin and stimulates things. I have always used Lubriderm fragrance free because I have sensitive skin. I tried the Wal-Mart (Equate) version of it this past year and am very happy with that at 1/2 the price! I have been faithfully using this every day for the last 6 months and I also take Vitamin E (dry). My skin looks better than it ever has. Also, don't forget the benefit of water, lots of water. I also did an informal survey while on vacation, visiting my in-laws. They live in a retirement community in south Texas. I asked several of my mother-in-laws lady friends what kind of lotion they use. The majority of them use Lubriderm. But a few also use Neutrogena body lotion, which is my mil's favorite. I just find that one to be too heavy for my skin, I break out in certain areas if I use anything that isn't light. Whatever you choose, use it daily right when you get out of the shower!
