Question:
Educate my PCP about post op life health concerns

I live in a small town and my PCP and hospital do not have much experience with post-op WLS patients. Do you know of any good educational materials I can provide? I want them to know about issues like absorption of medicines and other health issues that will affect me from here on out.    — Laura K. (posted on March 16, 2003)

You are in the right place to get most of your information. Just go to the library and print out anything you want your PCP to know. I had to do the same for my surgeon. Also another good site is www.spotlighthealth.com and sss.sabariatic.com both are very informative. Both has pictures to print. My PCP was very interested. Guess they don't have time to research on their own.LOL GOOD LUCK and hope this helps...

I would be real interested in getting this information as well! My PCP wants to know all the testing that's required for after care and how often it needs to be done ect... I picked my PCP because he is so willing to have an open mind about WLS even though he doesn't have many patients that has had it, but he was such a refreshing change from the other Dr.'s who act like they knew everything but didn't get into much detail about any of it. So I would rather feel I have just as much input on my follow up care as my Dr. He told me to bring him anything I could get my hands on and he would be more than willing to learn all about it. So I'll be watching the answers you get!

I would check with your surgeon or the bariatric surgery group. Our library is very useful but I would be uncomfy depending on my PCP using it as a medical reference.
