Ok Ladies Only...Has anyone had problems NOT getting thier period after surgery?

I AM 2 1/2 MONTHS POST OP AND HAVE ONLY HAD 1 PERIOD SINCE SURGERY, BUT
THIS WAS THE NORM FOR ME PRE OP, I REALLY THOUGHT IT WOULD CHANGE POST
OP... MAYBE WHEN I LOSE MORE WEIGHT.

Hi! Before surgery I was getting my period for months at a time. I
actually had it during surgery. I few days after surgery it stopped and I
havent had it since. I am 15 weeks post op. I figure that it will come back
when I lose more weight. I have never been regular so I am not too worried.

I didn't get my period for 2 months after surgery. Boy was I happy !
Normally, I am regular as clock work. Anyway on the 3rd month, it came back
with a vengence. I had some cramping also, but that was it. Try to enjoy
the time you have, cause when it finally starts you'll be sorry that it did
!LOL! Just to be safe, take a pregnancy test.

Unless there is a chance you are pregnant, it is most likely a hormone
unbalance in your body. More Estrogen is being release from the fat you are
losing. Your body needs Progrestone(sp?) to start a period. The over load
of Estrogen is keeping the Progrestrone from being produced. You can get a
progrestorne cream to rub on your tummy. Women who are menopausal use this
at times. I got mine from a health store, it is all natural.

Cheryl, do you use the progesterone cream for a month then stop or what? I
have been using it because my breasts have been sore for a month! I mean
painfully sore. I have only had one period since surgery 6 mos ago! I had
a little spotting but wish my hormones would stabilize. I am 49 so maybe
this has pushed me into menopause. It is very confusing! I am also taking
zoloft for anxiety and have just started it a month ago. Could the zoloft
be contributing to my hormone confusion? Anyone know? I asked my surgeon
but he wasn't too concerned about it and said it will take time to
straighten out. Does this over abundance of estrogen make one more
susceptible to cancer of the breasts?

Here is how I was told to use the cream. I started using it the day I got
it, unitl I started my period (about 1.5 weeks). Then I stopped using it,
waited for my period to end and then counted off 14 days. That was when I
started the cream again and did the same cycle. I have to defer your other
questions to a doctor, since you are at a pre-menopausal age that could be
playing a factor. I would ask your GYN doctor rather than your surgeon. I

Donna, my period didn't come during my first month after surgery. As I'm
usually regular as clockwork, I immediately went to see by GYN. He said
that this is not unusual after major surgery...that the body can basically
go into "shock", which often results in a lack of menses. He
prescribed Progesterone in pill form. After I took the required dosage, my
cycle began. I'm now almost 10 months out and haven't had a problem since.

I am normally very irregular, easily going 10 months or
more without a period. I just had my first at 7 weeks
post op and it is the heaviest flow, most cramping period
I have had since I was 14. Maybe a coincidence?
