Question:
Is it normal to have a feeling of pressure after eating, then pain?

I am 1 month post gastric bypass and cannot tolorate anyting but liquids or puddings. Pureed or even well chewed foods cause a horrible feeling of pressure, then shooting pain when it enters my stomach and then a stomach ache for up to 1/2 hr. after eating. I can't get more than 200/cal in a day...Pls.help...    — Aleta W. (posted on July 19, 2000)

I am 3 mo out, and when I feel the small pressure, I quit eating until I don't feel it any longer. I know that it has gone down. I would try all 3 of the following, 1. smaller bites 2. chew really well 3 wait longer between bites. I had to learn that the hard way. Hope it helps some GOOD LUCK!

Sorry to hear you're having such a time of it. I am 9 months post-op proximal Lap RNY and I had similar problems in the beginning. First and foremost please call you doctor/clinic and talk to them. I at times could only eat a few teaspoons of food and then that would be it. My problem was that the previous meal had not left the pouch and so there was no room for the next one. If you are not even tolerating the pureed (I could tolerate refried beans), call your clinic and talk to them about what could be going on. Best of luck to you.

I am now 2 years out of surgery, and down to goal weight of 156lbs. and maintaing, but, what does your surgon say about it all. Linda

Being 2 1/2 months post op, I know exactly what you're going through, as it happens to me as well. You're eating too fast or too much at a time, and this is where the pain comes from. It was a bit frustrating for me for a while, but I have gotten much better at it, and it doesn't happen nearly as often as before. Just hang in there, take it slow, and be patient with yourself. :)

As the others have said, this is normal if you are eating too fast. But, I've also discovered that I have this same thing if I am under stress or in a hurry. I must relax in order to eat. When I do, I can eat 3/4 c. of foods normally. Remember, it takes a whole lot longer to eat a whole lot less. Also, do not drink anything prior to your meals and up to 30 minutes afterwards.
