Question:
What is the estimated cost for WLS in Houston, TX?

I am a small business owner and can't find Insurance that will cover WLS, so I am looking at Self-Pay. I'm looking for an idea of what WLS will cost as well as recommendations of how to finance. Thanks.    — Gail W. (posted on January 16, 2005)

Hello, I too am a small business owner with no insurance. I live in Louisiana and my husband and I both are going for surgery next week in Monterrey, Mexico. We will be flying out of your home state Houston. The doctor we have chosen is Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. We are very confident with his credentials and have spoke to him at length over the phone. His assitant Doralisa is wonderful and makes all the arrangments. We only had a 3 week wait from the day we called. The cost for lap rny is 14,000. Of course you have to purchase your plane ticket which was $238 out of Houston and pay for your hotel which is 70 a night for 8 nights. YOu have to be in Monterrey a total of 10 days and 2 nights are spent in the hospital. I've rambled on long enough but if I can answer anymore questions I would be happy to. Doralisa's email address is [email protected] Good luck with your search and keep us in your prayers on next Wednesday and Thursday. Kim

Hello Gail, I too am a small business owner with no Insurance. I am leaving for Ensenada Baja California, Mexico on Feb 9. Dr. Alejandro Aguirre Wallace will be performing my surgery. The total cost will be $10,362.00, breakdown of charges are as followed $9400 includes medical stall and hospital fee. Rosella is Dr. A's assisant and daughter she is so helpful. Anytime I've sent her an email she has always been very prompt and knowledgeable. She has setup my transportation to and from San Diego airport for $350 (for 2 people). Even made my arrangements for an apartment (7 days & 6 nights) that is only 4 blocks (5-8 mintue walk) away from there office for a total of $612 which includes 3 days of nurse service and local transportation. So the total not including airfare is $10,362.00. I have learned after going to school and woking as an health care insurance technician you can ask for insurance rates. look up pay tables for various insurances. Find out if you MD accepts capitated insurance plans. If he dose this means he accepts the allowed ins. payment and reasonable and customary. do reasearch, on your MD AND ON as many INS cos. you can!
