Question:
When do all of the staples come out from open RNY?

I had my first post-op. appt. with my surgeon last Friday, which was 11 post open RNY w/ gall bladder removal. He had his nurse remove every other staple and cover with steri-strips. My next appt. is this Friday... will the rest of the staples come out then barring any problems? I ask because my husband and I moved our belongings to St. Petersburg, FL on July 4th and then I came back up to Pensacola, FL to have the surgery on July 21st. I am anxious to be with my hubby and kitties again... and I start a new job there on Sept. 2nd and want to get adjusted and settled in. I feel like once I get my staples out my husband can come up here and drive me to our new home. I would appreciate any input. Thanks!    — Wendy T. (posted on August 4, 2003)

I had open RNY June 26th and had 11 staples. I went to my surgeon exactly 2 weeks out and they removed every one of them. There where also other 2 week post ops there that where also getting there staples out and some had like 30 of them. It may just all depend on what your incision looks like. I'm really not sure, Im no doctor by far and I'm fairly new at this whole thing. But I thought I would give you some input. I do know once all your staples are out you will feel SO MUCH BETTER. Take care and GOOD LUCK!! : )

I had open RNY and Gallbladder removed on July 9, all staples were removed July 22, that's about 2-weeks post-op.

14 days exactly. My surgeon is a hard nose about that time frame. Couldn't go in one day early or late. Sigh...

Most surgeons prefer the staples to be removed 10-14 days post-op. As we are individuals, so are docs so time frames may vary.
