Question:
What is needed for a hospital stay for open rny?

I will be having my open rny 05/28/03 and wanted to get a general consensus on what I should pack. I've heard everything from chapstick to bari bears. ANything will help. Thanks, Bonnie    — Bonnie G. (posted on May 22, 2003)

I found chapstick, a small fan, and my slippers to be helpful. I wish I had taken shampoo, because when I was allowed a shower, they didn't have any and my hair was gross. I also took my own pillow, which helped me get comfortable.

My doctor's litature says to be sure to bring a couple of zip lock bags to put the medicine cups in ( they are good for measuring when you get home).

Your own tissues - the ones the hospital provides are harsh! Don't waste space with books - no matter how avid a reader you are - you'll likely never even crack one. Same goes for make-up, etc. Something lose and comfy to go home in and don't forget your toothbrush :>) Best of luck to you!`

I had my open RNY exactly weeks ago today. I took the following travel sized items: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair gel, lotion, toothpaste, etc...You get the idea, lol. I also took hairspry, blow dryer, and make-up, and YES, I used it, lol!! Call me vain if you wish, lol, just wanted to look my best, lol. I also took my own pajamas, robe, and slippers, and used all of those things too, which made me much more comfy!! Good luck to you on your upcoming wls!! :o)

I stayed in the hospital gowns. I took so much, and only used my socks, hairbrush, toothbrush and toothpaste. Wear something loose and wear it home. Take a WOODEN SPOON or Tongs, it is really hard to wipe yourself after you have had an OPEN and have lots of staples.

Whether lap or open, bring lip balm and a small personal fan. The fan was the best thing I had with me....

Chapstic, slip on house shoes, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, wooden spoon or tongs and don't forget the fan. If I had to only choose 2 items, I would go with chapstick and fan. I got very hot, and my lips got very dry even with it.

I packed like I was going on vacation lol. The only thing I needed was chapstick and toothbrush with toothpaste, other than that I was not up to caring what I looked like or anything else. I watched TV and walked alot. BTC also gave me a package with all my shower items, so I did not even need my own. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!
