Question:
Calling all with PCOS pre-op who had thinning hair.

I am 31, 4 weeks post lap RNY. I have had PCOS for 4 years (at least) and the usual culprits of insulin resistance, acne and male-patterned baldness (very thin hair on top and in front). For those of you longer-term post-ops: has your male patterned baldness reversed itself? Thank you.    — lizinPA (posted on March 10, 2003)

Yes! Me... But I have so much hair on my head- I was not aware that it was thinning on the sides of my forhead. Then I had my operation, I went through the "normal" hair loss that one can get with WLS... THEN, when my new growth started coming back in (and my hormones were changing etc. I was getting my period and ovulating regularly etc.)- it was then I noticed my two "spots" and that they had all this new hair growth coming in... My 72 year old Dad- still has a full head of hair- just these two "thinning" areas himself- so I chalk my expirience up to the male patterend baldness that runs in my family- which isn't very noticeable in the first place. Still I am very happy to have it back, even though I didn't miss it!
