Question:
Anyone else experienced a pain like you've bruised ribs

It's up hight on my left side - higher than I think my new stomach sits. It feels like I should have a large bruise but there is nothing there. It doesn't hurt as much being still but when I try to move then it's a pretty uncomfortable feeling.    — Michelle W. (posted on June 2, 2002)

Are you transected? I wouldn't play around with it...call your surgeon asap. Good luck and God Bless. -Kim

How far post op are you? I've got that same pain. Mine is just due to the incisions and the surgery itself. My doctor said it's normal. I'd call yours just to verify.

If it's right under your left breast, it's probably where an incision was. I had the same pain and the doctor told me that it was from where they had to cut through the muscle.

I would check with your surgeon, but chances are it is indeed just some bruised ribs, especially if you had open surgery. They use big retractors to open up the incision, and it stretched the rib cage out of shape a little bit and can cause some rather painful bruising to the ribs. But I would check with your dr. to make sure it isn't anything that could be more serious.
