Question:
Questionare

I had a psych evaluation on Friday and had to answer 567 questions? Is that normal? Also have to go back on Tuesday and talk to hin which is not something that I had expected. I thought it was just one appt. Am getting excited though as this is my last obstacle.    — Angela S. (posted on March 23, 2003)

Angela, that test was likely the MMPI, the Minnesota Multi Phasic Inventory and it is the standard psychological test these days. You may also have done an 'eating inventory' Your follow up will be for psychologist to review your results with you and talk with you briefly so they can make their determination regarding your being fit for WLS. Congrats on being halfway done with your last hurdle, I wish you the best. ~Peace

Hi! Alot of surgeons do require that test as well as a psych exam......The reason that you have to go back for a second time is because they actually have a machine that they insert the completed test into.It compiles results that are then interpreted by the psychologist.

I had to do the same thing. Nothing to worry about. I even have a history of Depression and a Panic disorder. I have a regular therapist I go to often and had to "promise" the psych that gave me my test that I would go to my therapist after my surgery and keep up with that. So I will. Anyhow I was still approved. Jamie

This is totally normal. I had to meet with the counselor before and after the testing, and the test (there were three tests, actually) amounted to about 700 true and false questions, some very bizarre! This probably is your last obstacle. I thought it was mine, but my insurance is going to require me to have a few more pre-op counseling sessions and then I have to get a letter from the counselor saying I am mentally prepared. I was very disappointed, but then again, I'd be willing to do just about anything to reach my approval. Don't fret, that test, I think, is more for people with serious mental disorders. At the worst you may have to participate in some counseling, and at best, it may just sail right through and you'll be approved! Good Luck!

I went through the same thing! I did not realize I had to go back and have a 2nd appointment! To me, the first appointment had nohting to do with WLS. Don't worry, things will be just fine! And congrats on completing this next step in your journey! :)
