Question:
Are there any pre-op patients out there that feel like they everything in sight.

Since investigating WLS I seem to want to eat anything and then everything. One I do though, just the thought of that item makes me nauseous. Has anyone else experienced this?    — Nancy S. (posted on May 5, 2000)

Hi nancy, I can certainly tell you that since scheduling my surgery for May 31, I have been eating things I normally do not allow myself, that is everything in site!!!If I don't gain an additional 30 pounds before the 31st I will be surprised. I think it is normal for people to go through this, kind of the "last supper" mindset. I wouldn't worry too much about this.

Once I had a date it was like a ceremony every time I ate. I felt like I had to say goodbye to a lot of things that I may never eat again. I didn't mind but it did help my crazy mind to manage the last few weeks of anxiety before surgery. BTW, I can eat most of those things now but I shouldn't so I don't do it too often. And the funny thing is, I don't miss them either. Good Luck!

I know exactly what you are saying. Ever since I decided to research, then have, this surgery, I have been eating like there is no tomorrow. I am angry at myself for doing it, and make decisions to cut back NOW, and prepare myself for the surgery, and it lasts until I get a new urge. I am not sure for the reason, or the cure, but believe me, you are not alone. Good luck. Jill

This is quite common so don't be concerned. My big day is May 10th, and I made myself a "Last Supper" list weeks ago. I know it's all very silly, and I know it's all in my head, but nevertheless I am not fighting it. Big changes have been and will be coming my way. When the time comes, I know I will have the physical tools to make better choices.

I know where you are coming from. Everything I eat I think, "After the surgery I won't be able to eat this anymore" or "I usually don't eat this but I can now because I am having the surgery." I have gained 5 lbs this month! Another strange thing about anticipating this surgery: it is like I have given myself permission to be tired and achy. I really don't have any energy now. Before I would ignore to the best of my ability how I would feel from dragging all of myself around. Now if I don't have this surgery soon......well, I wo 't even go there. I HAVE to have this surgery SOON. I can't live this way much longer. I dread everyday of having go go go anyway when all I want is to lye in bed all day. Tracy Hatcher
