Question:
How lengthy was your entire surgery process?

I have but one more test to take, (and pass! LOL) then my DR will forward my paperwork on for review by the surgeon in charge of this area. He is the deciding factor on whether I will be approved for surgery. Approx. how long did it take after your paperwork was submitted until you had an appointment with a surgeon? I am trying to plan ahead, but have no idea at this point what to expect. Thanks for any input.    — ScatCat (posted on July 4, 2002)

Kathy this is hard to say since all surgeons are different. My surgeon took 3 mo to get an appmt. Then, it took a few months to get the surgery. I started around June and was operated on in Dec. Also what your insurance company demands/ Some draaaag it out. Mine was super. I have Champus Trigon. My daughter has tried for over a year. One thing I would suggest is get all your "ducks in a row". When I went to the surgeon I had a bookelet 8x10 with copies of all my files (all my drs-heart pcp etc) any x rays or proceedures I'd had done and a photo with a letter stating why I wanted the surgery. If they don't need it they wont use it...and keep copies of EVERYTHING. Good luck and God bless.

I went to the information session in May and I have my surgery in 3 weeks and a wake up. I only have to see the Gastroenterologist and that should be it for the doctors. I am looking forward to my surgery.

Hi! I started to seriously researching on July 4th, 2001. I made an appointment a couple days later to see a surgeon. First consult was on 9/26/2001. I was approved in October 2001. Surgery was on 1/1/2002. I am now almost 6 months post-op. Good luck - Tracy

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the input. =)) As a Kaiser member, I have heard some differing stories, and that is why I was trying to get a better grip on a time frame. We have vacation coming up and so forth, and I wanted to plan ahead. I think at this point that probably would NOT be a good idea! LOL Thanks again, everyone!
