Question:
Does anyone fnd themselves still browsing in the PLUS SIZE section?

I hope I am not the only one with this issue...but...I am a year out from my open RNY. I have lost 153 pounds to date and am now 168. I can fit in a 12 pants and Med shirt. Tummy Tuck Nov 7. I always seem to bypass the regular section and head to the PLUS Size section. I can't seem to get in my mind I am smaller and no longer can fit in the PLUS size. Will my brain ever catch up with the rest of me so I can enjoy shopping? lol    — EMN (posted on September 25, 2003)

Yes, and no. I find that my 'instinct' is to head to the plus size area...and I just can't help 'looking' as I force myself to keep going. I have found that if I am really going to 'shop' it is extremely helpful to take someone with me at this point...or else I end up buying saggy baggies! I know it will pass sooner or later...I just hope it's sooner

I do the same thing. I still love to look at Lane Bryant and Romans catalogs. While at an outlet mall I went into a Dress Barn for Women store and the clerk asked me if I was shopping for myself. When I told her yes she said we don't have anything your size here. I felt like hugging her. I told her about losing 135 lbs and about a time I had gone into a bridle store ( not shopping for myself) and the clerk told me the same thing. What a difference those words meant that time.

It's funny you asked this, just yesterday I found myself in a dept. store looking in the plus dept. and I keep saying to myself this is pretty, but too big and then strolled across this isle and tried on regular sized close. It made my day.

I am in a 16 headed for a 14, 5 mos post op. I have a hard time staying out of the Plus size section, plus size catalogue, plus size stores. I head to "plus size" first, then back track to the smaller sizes. I went shopping for blouses with my husband last week and I felt very strange shopping in the regular section.

Ugh, I know exactly where you're coming from. I just received the stuff I ordered from LL Bean. They had an online sale and one of the shirts I wanted was only available in a 1X--- so I grabbed it, thinking, "yeah, that'll fit." Right--- it's like I'm wearing a tent.

I don't do that too much, but I do look at the sales ads we get in the Sunday paper. What gets me is that now that I don't need to wear the plus sizes anymore, I can find all kinds of nice looking clothes! Before I lost weight, I couldn't find anything decent looking in the plus size dept.

Hi there. I wanted to tell you that I have often done this both in stores and in catalogs. I still do it now. It seems as if there is something in my mind that draws me to them because for years plus size clothing has been the ONLY clothing I could wear. Now I am beginning to focus more on what fits my body. I am taking longer to try clothes on and seeing how they fit and getting an opinion from others (not that they matter but are nice to know). I am also making myself realize that I have lost all this weight and that I need to adjust accordingly. It will come in time I think. I wish you luck.

I've lost 103 lbs and am just on my way out of the plus size section. I'm sure it is an instinct just like Pavlov's dogs. . . we've spent so long in that section. I guess the only good thing about making the trip when you no longer need to is you get the extra exercise. . . the plus sizes are always at the back of the store!!

I'm in a size 12 pant and L top but I still head to the Plus Size's and look there first before heading to the misses section. Several people in my support group do this too. Funny huh?!!! ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 115+ and counting

Hi, i have that problem all the time, and my partner tells me, that i can't fit anything in the PLUS SIZE section anymore. im 7 months post-op -75lbs. I wear a sze 14 pant large or extra large top. But it feels good to wear smaller sizes, but i feel funny in that section for some reason. I think we are all going to go through that period of time, but well get over it and move on to the misses and junior size. Good Luck

I am 6 years post-op and in a 10/12 and some times still go to plus size without thinking. Then realize I don't belong there anymore. That is such a great feeling!!!!!!!! Sometimes I still feel heavy in my head, if you know what I mean, even if my body doesn't look heavy. I'm still working on that.

My dearly beloved husband gave me $300 for my birthday for CLOTHES!!!! As I was shopping in the PETITE dept I felt like an imposter even tho the size 12 petite pants and Medium shirts fit so perfectly. I kept waiting for someone to come up and say "maam, the fat clothes are over there"

I still check out the Plus Size area. I'm in a 12-14 right now and I have to be honest, I don't care for the style in the regular section. I'm supposed to get my TT done the week of Thanksgiving and hopefully I'll get to a point that I can catch everything up together. Good luck! If you find a way to get over the compulsion to shop plus sized let me know.
