I had this after my open rny surgery (at about 4 weeks I think ). Pain was a bit higher than belly button height, and round to the left over by my ribs. Hurt worse as the day went on. I asked my surgeon about this, and she told me that during the open procedure, in an effort to get as much room to work as possible, the surgeon will literally throw all their wieght behind the retractor to spread your abdominal cavity as wide as possible. Unfortunately, this often results in bruised ribs. Sometimes it just takes a while for things to pop back into place. Took several weeks before this stopped with me. I would encourage you to see your doctor however, if the pain is really bothersome, as it could be something else, and you should never take an internet diagnosis as good enough.
