Question:
ATTN: Any of Dr. Caruana's patients who are post-op or done w/testing

I want to know if Dr. Caruana has some guideline about losing weight BEFORE the surgery. My BMI is 42, and I have about a month before surgery. If at all possible, I'd like to try and lose maybe 10 lbs. before surgery, which will bring my BMI down (I'm 5'1" and currently weight about 222). I just wanted to know if he'd cancel the surgery if I get my BMI down to 40. I know BMI of 39 is considered morbidly obese, but i have heard about some surgeon's canceling the surgery because of a lower BMI than at the consult. Any info would be appreciated.    — sweetmana (posted on June 5, 2003)

I don't think they would cancel the surgery, but it might be something you want to check with him about. My friend is about 5'1 and was 238 when she had hers done. do you have other co-morbities? if so, i would think that would be on your side. good luck...phyllis (-142 13 months post op)
