Question:
I have a surgery date and pre-op date, what can I expect from the preop testing?

I just found out today that my surgery will be July 24, 2000 at the Medical College of Virginia. My surgeon will be Dr. John Kellum. My pre-op work will be on July 18. Sarah, it all depends on the doctor , your medical history , your insurance company , and sometimes the hospital. For me it was bloodwork , an ekg, a psychological evaluation , blood pressure, and listening to my lungs. It may be different for others. If you are concerned , you can always ask ahead of time what you should expect specifically. I know I was very nervous , and it was a piece of cake for me. Good luck, I'm sure you will do fine.

My surgery is on 6/23 with Dr. Yasrebi and I did my pre-op testing today. I had bloodwork (HIV & complete metabolic screen) and then a sonogram of my gallbladder (my surgeon removes the gallbladder as part of the RY surgery), chest x-ray and then an upper GI (where I had to drink barium (blech) while they x-rayed my stomach.) It took about two hours and the barium was not as awful as I had heard.
