Question:
PROZAC VS. WELLBUTRIN
I've been on Wellbutrin for 3 months and have seen only slight improvement with my moodiness. I still get very irritated when my husband or kids eat and can hear them chewing. I can't stand when it's to noisy around me, I feel like I can't think straight. I hate to go to the movies because people chewing their popcorn drives me insane, so I sit there with my fingers in my ears. I feel like I'm losing it. So my doctor is switching me to Prozac. I've heard alot of good about it but I was wondering if anyone else has had any luck with it. I also wondered about weight gain from it, the doc said it really wasn't a problem. Actually ALL anti-dep will work different for everyone
With your DR, you have to test them to see what is the best for YOU.
I was told by my doc, that there are two types, ones that will hype you up
a bit, and the others will relax you. Depending on your personality and
needs. My own opinion its best to have a psychiatrist vs an MD, who
specializes in this. Prozac for me gives me an anorexic effect.

I have been taking Prozac for about 3 years post op and doing very well.
No weight problems from the drug at all. I also agree with the previous
post that only a psychiatrist is really the way to go. Also...when I began
to have irritability my PDoc added a small dose of Lamictal. However, the
Lamictal at a larger dose did give me the hungries..but not at a small
does. Good luck.

I have been on prosac for about 5 years since my divorce. It has done
wonders for me personally. I think I mostly suffer from PMDD but taking it
all time does help me even out my mood swings. For me its the inside rage
I feel when I am not on it. Like a devil trying to get out. Its awful..
When I am on it I feel relaxed and can deal with what life throws at me for
effectivly. I care for 6 small children and I could not do it with out my
prosac..LOL I have tried other kinds but this one seems to work the best
and is the cheapest so far. No weight gain before or after surgery. Now
down 91 pounds since surgery January 27, 04. I do take it at night before
I go to bed because it tends to make me sleepy for about an hour or two
after I take it. Since I have switched to the night thing its been great..

Do both! Pre Op I was on 150mg of Welbutrin SR (time release) and Celexa.
Post Op it would'nt work. So it was Welbutrin (non time release) 100 mg and
Celexa. It helped for awhile and now does'nt so much. So now I'm supposed
to take Welbutrin and Prozac and no Celexa. (I'm going to start the Celexa
again. Anywho why not ask if you can take Welbutrin (NOT SR) with the
Prozac?

Kelly, wow your post could have been written by me! Everyone keeps telling
me I need to get over my issue with other people chewing/chompping loudly.
ANd this is not a WLS issue because I have had this issue since I was a
kid! I have been on antidepressants before but it never helped the noisy
eating issue, has it help you? I would love to go to the movies,
resuarants or even my own dinner table and not be bothered by chewing
noises. Sorry this isn't much of an answer, just know you are not alone in
this issue, I am glad to finally find out that I am not the only one like
this!

I have been taking Prozac for about 3 years and just within the past 9
months or so added Wellbutrin to that. It is the most perfect combination I
have found. It hasn't hindered weight loss or anything. The Prozac has
always been my definite helper in irritability and controlling my anger.
Wellbutrin has taken care of more of the depression side of things. Make
sure your doctor doesn't give you the time release Wellbutrin, and I know
if you get the low dose of wellbutrin you can get it in a generic. Good

Kelly, Prozac is often prescribed for obsessive/compulsive disorder and
the irritation that you feel when people do seemingly innocent things seems
like it could be a part of that. Prozac actually can help you lose weight
from what I have been told, not gain. I am currently on Lexapro because my
body got used to the prozac and I did not want to take too high of a dose,
because it can have some awful side affects in high doses. Do talk to a
shrink instead of a regular md, anti depressants are nothing to play with
and even though the primary care physician writes some scripts for them,
does not mean that they are dealing with them every day and know all they
need to know about them. Believe me I have had antidepressants written
from both sides and have had much greater success with the shrinks. Good

Be very careful of Prozac and weight gain. I was on it for a year and a
half several years back and gained 70lbs. over the course of treatment. I
craved sugar and would obsess about eating chewy, sugary candy i.e. gummy
bears, etc. Check it out thoroughly! Once I switched over to Wellbutrin I
was myself again. Keep in mind, however, we cannot have XR tablets of any

Amanda has the same recipe as I do! I've been on prozac AND wellbutrin for
at least 5 years... I've tried both without the other......the COMBO is
