Question:
A friend had RNY in April. Is her perforated ucler likely related?

A young lady that I know had her RNY done in April and has already lost 90+ pounds. I just heard that she'd been put in the hospital due to a perforated ulcer and that she was very ill. The hospital is three hours away so I haven't had a chance to talk with her or her family. Due to the fact that I also have had RNY (Dec. 09)....I am wondering how likely it is that she is sick due to her surgery and what the incidence of developing an ulcer might be. That's somethng her doctor would need to determine.

I am not making a diagnosis but from what I have been warned about ulcers developing after wls it could have been from taking Aleve-type medication or maybe she was smoking. Only the doctors will know for sure.
