Lots of folks on this forum say "Gas-X Extra Strength" works wonders! In fact, it's on their list of things to get before surgery, so I got mine yesterday - now I'm ready! Walking is also the best thing to help the gas move through. Good luck!

In addition to the other suggestions, try consuming pro-biotics. Our intestines have "friendly" bacteria that we need. These bacteria can be killed off by antibiotics and other causes (not sure). Insufficient "good" bacteria in your digestive system can cause gas. Check GNC or other health-vitamin type stores for pro-biotics.

I am 6 days post op myself....keep walking. Also last night I used a Ducolax suppository. It did not stay in long as there is not much to remove but I did have a tiny stool and the gas began getting better. Remember that the gas, the longer you have it, makes you tender inside and that takes a few days to resolve too.

I would agree, walk, walk, walk... but my dr. frowned on antacids etc with your new pouch.

Gas-X has been most helpful for me and I am 5 week post-op Gastric Bypass. Walking does help, but I've learned that you should take the Gas-X every day even if you arent having gas, that way it is prevented before the pain comes. It is not harmful, and you will have relief and no public embarassment doing it this way. It has worked for ms since I had surgery on 3/3/08. Hope this helps. Lisa

One of the reasons for the painful gas is that it takes weeks for the intestines to start really working again. So, much that is eaten tends to not be expelled very quickly (which creates gas as it decomposes). What helped me was lots of little walking, lose pants (anything that bound my waist made the problem worse), re-positioning myself when I sat down (I tried to avoid remaining in a sitting position for very long) and lots of warm beverages.
