Question:
I just had surgery a week ago and I am getting a sharp pain in my neck and shoulder,

I went through the same thing after my surgery in August. My sister is a
massage therapist and she told me it could be either gas buildup from the
anesthesia (i did burp alot) or referred pain (pain that is felt in other
places of the body instead of your stomach). I had my husband massage my
neck and shoulder and I tried to lay on my side that didn't hurt (which is
hard after the surgery). I also used a heating pad and also let hot water
from the shower run on it. It eventually went away after a few days. I
hope you get it to away as I know it does hurt. Are you using any Mylanta?

If I remember correctly, I believe my partner had to take something for gas
after the surgery -- the doctor told her to keep it around. That is like
the worst thing about this diet -- the gas can become horrible

I agree the first thing I thought it could be was anesthesia (sp). I do
that same thing every time. A good message, hot shower, icy hot rub, hot
bath, helps relieve it, but only time can really get rid of it. As always
if it last too long contact the doctor.

Well I haven't had surgery yet, but I did have a C-Section about 14 1/2
months ago and I had the same thing they told me it was from the aneshtesia
(GAS)

TRY SLEEPING WITH YOU HEAD LOWER THEN YOUR FEET. AFTER I HAD ALOT OF
SURGIES I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IF YOU LOWER YOUR HEAD THE GAS HAS TO GO
DOWN AND OUT.

I did not have this, but I heard that sometimes this happens and it is gas.
I heard that to just keep walking around will help.

Most likely it is just gas but check your temp. If you have a fever contact
your Dr. immediately. This happened to me and I had developed an infection.

I had surgery Nov.22, 2005 and I have a pain in my left under shoulder
blade. It's pretty painful at times. If I lay down and put my arm over my
head, there is some relief.

The gas part may be correct. However, I had surgery in 1998 and if I eat to
quickly, the pain the goes into the shoulder blade can be really bad at
times. Try not to eat if you are upset, and when you do eat, do it slowly.
The clamer the better. Many other issues will follow. Find yourself a good
antacid for you such as prevacid, prilosec, zantec... etc.. good luck
