Question:
experiancing balding with pregnancy 10 months post op, anyone experiance this?

I had my surgery Nov. 17 2006, Unfortunatly got pregnant too soon after, decided to keep the baby, I have to be honest I have not been taking any vitamins or protein because i absolutly hate the way they both make me feel. And now due to my lack of caring for myself i have a quater size bald spot on the top of my head,    — krystinaelisabeth (posted on October 2, 2007)

Remember no matter what you have to take your vitamins and right now the pre-natals will do you all the good. You will still have to do your protien because your body is not getting enough protein this will cause your hair to fall out. I am not sure if you can take this but Biotin will help but ask you OBGYN before taking. But make sure you get some pre-nats in your system if will not only help you but it will help your unborn child as well. Make sure you are getting your proper nutrients daily. It will help with the balding.

WOW, you better take some vitamins!! I am currently pregnant and even with vitamins I still suffer with deficiencies. I don't take pre-natal vitamins because they made me sick, but I do take the bariatric vitamins and 2 folic acid pills and 2 biotin pills! Folic acid is very important for the growing baby, and your body may not be getting enough since you had surgery. Also about the bald spot... I knew someone who had that happen and she hadn't even had the surgery, it may be a pregnant thing. She had to go to the dermatologist and get a shot of cortizone in her scalp. If it was hair thinning all over I would relate it to the surgery, but a quarter size bald spot is not common with WLS.

the only thing that is going to help you is for you to take your vitamins -- you were aware that vitamins were part of daily living before you had the surgery -- it's not something you can get around -- your hair will stop falling out once you get in your protein -- it should be no LESS than 60mg a day -- and if you aren't getting in your vitamins and protein and nutrients for yourself -- then your unborn child isn't getting any either good luck

YOU MUST TAKE THOSE PRENATAL VITAMINS FOR YOUR BABY. Sorry to shout, but if you don't take them you can have a baby born not right (to put it simply). And you must take vitamins for your well being anyway since you had WLS. There is no way around it. If they don't taste right to you, switch to something else, but please take them.

The damage has already been done. The bald spot will eventually grow hair back when you start getting in your protein. You have probably already done damage to the rest of your hair now too. The rest will fall out as well, so the best you can do is start back taking ALL your vitamins and concentrate on your baby. I hope you realize your baby is also not getting ANY nutrients so TAKE THOSE VITAMINS!!!!!! Good luck and God bless.

How far along are you? You really have to take those vitamins; try Cenogen Ultra or the generic version NataCaps (I'm sure the pharmacist will be able to find them). They are prescription but did not seem to affect me as badly as the others - even some that aren't prenatal. I took them with my last pregnancy and liked them so much that I had been taking them after my surgery. I'm pregnant now and am taking them again. If you time it just right they generally don't make you feel bad. Wait about an hour after you eat (which I honestly think is a non-issue seeing how our bodies are so different now) and try taking them right before bed. Get in some more protein (not as important in the first trimester as in the last two but good for you anyway and it'll help you keep your hair) I hope this helps.
