Question:
How long after consultation will you breast reduction be scheduled.

I go to my 1st appointment on Jan. 17 and was wondering those who had insurance pay for there reduction did you have to go to therapy first to prove that wouldn't help and than insurace would pay for it, or did they automatically prove it. basically how long after your 1st appt was you surgery scheduled. My OB-GYN sent a letter to my insurance and then after I had my consultation with my surgeon, he also sent a letter to the insurance stating that it was medically necessary for me to have the reduction. My insurance paid everything except my $500 deductible. I did not have to go to any therapy. From the consultation with the surgeon, to the date of surgery was approx. 3 weeks. As soon as the surgeon received my approval from the insurance, i was scheduled for surgery asap.. Hope this answers your question.

My insurance company didn't ask for anything. I would have had surgery sooner than I did (12/11) but the hospital that my doctor worked with quit taking Blue Cross, so I had to wait for another place for him to find. It was a breeze through my insurance. Matter of fact I called them to find a doctor too. They gave me plenty of choices! Good luck. Total time wait for me, 3 months

Check your insurance company's clinical guidelines, either online or by phone, and find out what they require. Each insurance company is different. I had to just go to a psychiatrist, who administered a test wrote a letter saying I should have the operation. I also had to go on (another) six-mpnth diet under a physician's care, and see him monthly. He then wrote a letter. I also was tested for sleep apnea (and wound up with a breathing machine) and a heart doctor, who both tested me I did all this after checking with my insurance company, and so was able to go to the surgeon and schedule my surgery for seven months after I began, which was amonth after my diet requirement was met. that way, I did not have to wait as long, since my surgery was already scheduled.
