Question:
Is there a liquid form of Prozac?

I am currently taking prozac to help an obsessive disorder. Is there a liquid form I can take after the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery?    — David M. (posted on September 10, 1999)

The doctor that prescribed it is best to talk with about this, as well as your surgeon. You may have to take a lower dosage, a lot of things will change post op and this might be another :)

There is a liquid form of Prozac available, however, you may not need it at all post-operatively. If you're more comfortable taking it though (I understand that the taste leaves much to be desired), you may just want to take it short term and then go back to the capsule. I've had no problems swallowing any pills since my surgery. Good luck!

a prozac capsule is small enough to pass without any difficulty......

A great reference website for prescription drugs of all kinds is www.rxlist.com. You can read all kinds of information about any given medication, including the various forms it comes in. I take Paxil, and was pleased to see that it comes in a liquid form. It seems likely that Prozac does too.

hiya i am on prozac too, there is no liquid prozac that i know of but remember that prozac stays in your system for 6 weeks so if you stop the day of surgery, by 6 weeks out you'll be able to tolerate taking the pill you might also want to start back on a lower dosage...i started back at 6 weeks post op, 20mg every other day then after 2 weeks 20mg daily (down from 40-60mgs pre-op) good luck!

Hello. I had my sucessful surgery on December 1, 2003. My internist was very helpful and told me about liquid prozac. She told me to be sure that I insist that I was given this before I left the hospital--given that I have suffered from severe depression in the past. Be sure if you need it that your surgeon prescribes it early before you are discharged. I had to order it--the hospital pharmacy was closed and Walgreens had to order it--taking two days. This might not be a problem but I did have a little depression at this time. Best wishes. The surgery was one of the best things I have ever done. I feel great and have less depression now.
