Laura, oh, my precious, precious, and very beautiful young woman. My heart goes out to you. I do not have any answer for you regarding polyneuropathy: I even went on the web to search out what this word means. I was overwhelmed with what I read. I also went to your personal site. Congratulations on your awesome 190 lb. weight loss. You uploaded a couple of current pictures at your personal site. You are a very beautiful woman and you have come a long ways. Laura, what ideas has your doctor provided you concerning how you got this polyneuropathy and what your treatment options are? If it came from a bacteria (as I read this could be one source besides diabetes), I know all about that! I had a flesh-eating bacteria which ate my internal organs, causing me to have accute pancreatitis and a FAILED LIVER! I lost last year as well. What saved my life (I had close friends who had loved ones die from what I had). I came very close. Now, I'm truly over 100% A-OK! From personal experience, I do know the importance of getting sufficient protein daily, eliminating the sugar and fat from our diets, eating sufficient fruits AND vegetables -- especially the green ones, absolutely eliminating all the white foods, and drinking 64 to 90 ounces of liquids daily to truly flush toxins from our system, no matter what. I know that what finally caused my system to settle down was the daily consumption of live active bacteria in cottage cheese, as well as in yogurt (99.99% of all cottage cheese and yogurt is dead and doesn't have any live bacteria in them -- yuck!) besides the elimination of any type of milk from my diet. But, let us see what others will write. Know you are in my prayers, you truly are. Christine Gibson, OH Coach and Support Group Leader

I am 8 mos. post-op from RNY and 90 lbs. down, a little over half way to my goal. I didn't get a neuropathy from this surgery, but I have a neuropathy in my left knee from back surgery in 1999. It can go away at anytime or last indefinitely. What it is, is a nerve that has been irritated, usually during surgery the surgon comes in contact with the nerve. Even though it was my back (far lateral herniated disc, L4/L5) that was being operated on, the nerve that was irritated came out of the spine at that point on its way to the knee. I also have one on my right side in the crease between the hip and the top of the leg. I got this one because that nerve, comes out of the spine, up over the hip and down the front of the leg and ends at the knee. At the crease, it has to pass through a foramen or opening and was swollen from a disc pressing on it at the spine. It became irritated because it came in contact with the bone right there at the crease. So basically, it is a nerve that becomes irritated in some way or another. My neuropathy's are controlled by a drug called neuronton. It was origanally produced to control epilepsy, but was also found to control neuropathy's, because it helps calm down the nerve. I hope this helps, and if you are still experiencing pain, talk to your doctor. Good Luck and Congradulations on your weight loss, Paula B.
