Question:
Is your Menstrual cycle different after having gastric bypass surgery?

I have PCOS and before surgery I would go 4-5 months without a period.
Since surgery I have one every month and it is pretty much a 28 day cycle.

Yes...but I am also getting to that age of "changes" anyway (Age
45 and 5 years post op RNY)...But I noticed that I have severe cramping
now...mucho heavier blood flow...so much so that I became anemic. I have my
period every 2-3 weeks rather than every full moon like I used to almost to
the exact day of the full moon!(I could almost set my watch by my cycle it
was so regular).....My blood is a weird orange color and more watery than
red with some clots and last 7-8 days rather than my nice short 4 day/
light cycles I used to have...Age? Surgery? No idea! I probably need to go
see an OB/GYN...I DREAD those visits more than anything else...I'd rather
fall and go get stitches than see the OB/GYN doc...

I did for the first 6 mts but I finally back on track. But I went back on
the pill right away and things worked itself out.

I had surgery in July, had a period in Aug. and Sept. but havent had one
since then, I am not complaining by no means, but have lost 95 pounds and
thought they would be normal again, but I am at that age, where things
start to happen. 52 years young.

Just had surgery on 3-16 and my cycled started as scheduled on 3-19. It was
the same as before.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in high school and the only way I ever got my
period was by taking progesterone to start it. I would go months or years
w/o getting my period and one month after surgery I started getting it
normally. I'm almost six months out and now it's pretty much like
clockwork.

Hi ! I am 9 months out and my cycle did change. I used to have very
irregular periods..had one then 19 days later another then 60 days
another..then I didnt' have any while my son was in Iraq..then I had
surgery and once I lost about 50 lbs I started having them regularly and
more like when I was a teen. Heavy, crampy, clotty, and longer than my
norm.But I am very regular now. every 30 days. It stinks, but I think once
my body gets the hormones straightened around again, it will go back to
normal. I hear women are more fertile after surgery...so watch out! lol I
do know that hormones are stored in fat and when you lose weight it
releases the hormones back into your system and that is probably why are
cycles change. But time will regulate it. Good luck to you!

Melinda, my periods were so irregular (break-through bledding nearly
everyday), I finally had to have a thermal ablation over a year ago. Having
perfectly normal periods now. I'm almost 6 years out.

Yes, I have one like ever other month and they are either shorter or
longer, but I am 50 so it may or may not be reguarding the surgery. I just
wish they would go on and stop! Good luck to ya. WLS does reak havok on
the hormones the first year! Take your vitamins!
