Question:
Anyone have nerve pain related to internal stiches?

I had surgery 3/17/10 and had unrelieved pain in the hospital. I just figured pain was to be expected. Then I had a burning pain up under my left ribs that I just assumed was from the drain pressing on nerves. I also had a sharp pain near the belly-button incision that I thought was just a healing pain. After having the drain removed I was in so much pain I would have cried but it hurt too bad. After testing they say the internal sticth (disolvable)is on the nerve that runs from my ribs to my lower stomache and this is causing all my pains. They said it should be gone by my 1 mnth check-up which is in 1 week. Nothing has changed from what I can tell. Anyone else had this and if so, how long before it went away?    — Dawn S. I have never experienced what you are describing but I am sorry you are having to go through it. I have had nerve pain from external stitches and I can tell you that does eventually go away. I can only assume that the internal stitch has irritated the nerve and it needs more time to heal. I hope your pain ends soon.

I had my surgery 3/22/10, and I have internal pain, right next to my belly button, where there is no external incision. I hear that this is very normal, and should go away in 2-3 months.

I had tummy tuck dec of 06 and I still have pain from internal stiches.I have a little place right 2 inches below belly button that hurts. They say it can take up to 9 years for a stich to work its way out. I always thought it was from where my drains were. Do not know. Still get the pains. I had totally uncomplicated RNY and tummy tuck so who knows. I'm sorry you all are having these pains I know exactly what you are going through. Mine normally hurts when I wear low rise that rides on the spot.

Oh yes, Dawn, I know it well. I had nerve pain around the left incision. It felt like my skin was burning. I was always checking to see if it was red! The pain started a couple of weeks after my VSG and, unfortunately, lasted several weeks. I wore the pain patches and I even went and had seroid injections to try to get relief. The good news is that it will get better, just may take some time. I hope you feel better soon!
