I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed. Are you following the exact guidelines for diet and exercise? Are you still measuring? It is easy to slightly enlarge the portions slowly over time and not realize it? Are you snacking between meals? If the answer is that you are lagging behind in doing what you are supposed to do, then review the reason why you wanted to have the surgery in first place and get remotivated. If your answer is that you are truly following the diet and exercise, then, all I have to say is that people lose at their own pace. You may be one that loses it slower. You don't mention if you are diabetic. If so, how have your sugars been running? If they are still high, that can slow your weight loss down. And, if you're truly following everything.... go to your doctor for a check up and express your concerns... see if they need to retest your thyroid function or your insulin level in your blood... there could be all kinds of things that could be keeping the weight on. And one last question for you.... Are you making sure that you are drinking a MINIMUM of 2 qts of water daily.... very important.... good luck and keep your eye on the prize....

Don't drag yourself down. Depression and stress leads to overeating for the wrong reasons. Start today with tracking your steps. Right down everything you do throughout the day; from the foods you eat, the amount of bowel movements you make, the amount of liquids you intake, and the exercises you complete. This diary will help you see what you are /or are not doing. Then make the necessary changes to adjust. Also, make sure that you are taking your vitamins as you should. Hope this helped. Let me know how things are going.

I'm 4 months post-op and have finally lost 1/2 of what I hope to lose in the 18months following surgery....be patient! EVERY person's body is different...but, IF you're doing what you need to do, avoiding sugar and carbs and watching portion sizes, it WILL drop!!! I plateau from 3 to 4 weeks at a time, then suddenly drop 11lbs.! I understand the frustration because I just want to wake up thin again, but....I am reminded that I didn't get this way overnight....I'm only 5'2" and started at 310lbs.! Don't quit!!! You'll make it!!! Patricia

Please do not get discouraged. The weight loss varies from person to person. I lost then had a few weeks where nothing happened. As far as not weighing yourself. I step on the scale every single morning. I monitor my weight so as I can make sure that if I gain a lb I look at what I did the previous few days and make my adjustment. I will never allow myself to get out of control again.

I have noticed that on the weeks that I loose weight, I don't seem to loose inches and on the weeks that I loose weight slower, I loose inches. Like last week I finally broke down and bought new jeans. Took me forever to find a brand that fit and then, no kidding, by the following week they already look to big and I only lost another pound in that time. So I figure our bodies are doing s-t-ra-n-g-e things. So I have just tried to adopt the attitude that I am going to enjoy every stage I go through, both the good times and the bad! Because we are still on the loosing side and that is so much better than where I was 11 weeks ago! Congratulations on your decision and why not go ahead and weigh yourself and celebrate whatever you have lost. Because it is a loss and not a gain! Blessings!

Hi Victoria - definitely don't get disappointed! You will go through highs and lows with your weight loss including many, many plateus (sp). I am just over a year post op and am down to 119 pounds. It took a lot longer than 6 months let alone 9 weeks. Just keep plugging along with your food intake and exercise, it will come off :o) Please feel free to email me with any questions. Kim

There is another way to look at this, when is the last time you dropped a clothes size so quickly? I feel your frustration and have been there myself. I to go in spurts of loss and plateaus. I have lost 172lbs in just under a year so keep the faith, drink, and exercise and before you know you'll be a whole knew person.

I am nine weeks post op. I have lost a total of 31 pounds yet have very little change in clothing size. You had this surgery because you had a lot of weight to lose. The weight is coming off from verious places on your body. Give your body a chance to adjust to the weight loss. The cloths size changes will come. Right now the most important thing is the loss of the weight for your health and comfort. Looking good in your cloths is just around the corner.

Don't expect to do what others do. I am still wearing some of the clothes I wore pre op and have lost over 60 lbs. Of course, they were all stretch and are getting loose, but they don't fall off. i have bought some things at thrift shops to wear when I get small enough. Also, clothes are made different. I still have no waist line to speak of, but I sure look a lot better.

Everyone is right- don't get discouraged. I didn't lose quickly my first 2 months and then I did over the next four and then it slowed down again. Then I thought after my first year that I had stopped losing. The strange thing is, my weight is going down again now very slowly, a pound here a pound there- but after dropping 6 more pounds I dropped another clothing size, some styles 2 sizes! I think alot has to do with my hanging skin and since you can't lose that with weight loss- I have to wait for plastic surgery. My surgeon says I am ready- I have an appointment to see one next month. So don't be discouraged. Your wonderful journey has just begun. Good luck!

Don't be discouraged! There is no reason to be discouraged. Everyone loses at their own pase, not at someone elses! I only lost 2-4 pounds each week the whole time I was in the losing phase. The first few months it was closer to 4 pounds, but most weeks, I lost 1 to 2 pounds each week. I kept walking, drinking and going to support group. I fought the head fights for food and just kept pressing foward. Because of exercise, I had less skin issues and in a year lost 100 pounds, and in a year and a half lost 120 pounds that I have kept off for almost 3 years now. Don't worry about losing fast, just lose, and keep it off. That's the game, the time limit will depend on your body and your devotion to exercise and water and protrein. Fight the good fight in this, don't lose heart. And don't gauge yourself by others, that is not good for you ever! Take care,

Yeah, I do have some advice. Girlfriend, you are only one month out. . .and you are down one whole size. . .give yourself a BREAK! The honeymoon period is 18 to 24 months. If you are down one size in one month. . .just imagine what you will be able to do the next 23 months! We all are different (thank goodness) and we will lose differently. You just hold onto those "fat pants" one day (in the not too distant future) you will wonder if you ever were that big! Be good to yourself and remain positive!
