Question:
12 days post-op and really, really tired

Is it normal to be exhausted two weeks after surgery, or should I talk to my surgeon about it? I am 12 days post-op (Laproscopic - Realize Band), and I am exhausted. I've seen similar questions, but those people said they have not been getting adequate liquids or protein. I have been religious about getting/tracking my protein (90+ gms/day) and liquids (64+ oz/day). I am also taking my multivitamin and extra vitamin D. I am sleeping 10-12 hours a night and still really, really tired by early afternoon. Did I go back to work too soon? I went back to work 11 days after surgery (surgery was on 4/9 and I went back to work on 4/20); I figured it would be okay, because I have a desk job (I'm an attorney). Any suggestions?    — ads2e (posted on April 21, 2009)

Hi there. I think it is normal to be tired after surgery. It is hard on your body and you need time to rest and recover. I had lapRNY on 3/10/09, went back to work on 3/23 full time and was tired! It does get better. Listen to your body, rest if you feel tired, even little cat naps help. Exercise helps too! I feel energized when I get in a good walk or time at the gym. Hope this helps. Amanda

Yes, I think it's normal to feel extra tired after a surgery. I know it's frustrating when you have so many things you want/need to do. Your body just needs time to right itself and to heal. Hang in there! This too shall pass. Soon, your energy levels are going to be way up there! Good luck!
